  • Parks & Recreation’s Spring Workshop: Songwriting-Building Self-esteem and Empowerment

    This past Spring, the Jefferson Parish Parks and Recreation Department held a Songwriting Workshop for kids ages 7-13. Over the course of 8 classes, held at Little Farms Playground in Metairie, 5 girls used the art of songwriting to work through their own experiences with bullying. Watch their music video here.

    Five years ago, on April 20, 2010, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded, killing 11 workers and spilling approximately 200 million gallons of crude oil impacting hundreds of miles of coastline along the Gulf of Mexico. To date, it is the worst disaster of its kind in U.S. history.
