On Saturday August 23rd, 2014, the Jefferson Parish Parks and Recreation Department held its annual Summer Fiesta. This year’s theme was a very patriotic governor’s ball, with area children playing many well known historical American figures.

The Jefferson Parish Department of Inspection and Code Enforcement is responsible for the enforcement of the Jefferson Parish Code of Ordinances along with reviewing and issuing building permits for all structures, signs, and trash dumpsters in unincorporated Jefferson Parish. They also handle dangerous building abatement and requirements for New Business Start-Ups.
Jefferson Parish Emergency Management, joined by Emergency Management from Orleans Parish, Plaquemines Parish, and St. Bernard Parish, hosted a free, three-day Regional Teen Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Camp. The event was packed with disaster response training, team-building exercises, competitive events, and fun recreational activities. The Teen Community Emergency Response Team Program educates students about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and offers training in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
The annual Senior Olympics will be held this year in Jefferson Parish from August 24 through November 15. Watch this short video for more information.
Jefferson Parish began transitioning from manual garbage collection to semi-automated collection, with Progressive Waste Solutions of Louisiana (PWSLA) distributing 95-gallon carts to residences and small businesses serviced under Jefferson Parish’s trash collection contract. The new system, one of the most efficient in use today, offers the advantage of preventing wind-blown litter, reducing odors, and improving rodent control.
