    Jefferson Joining Forces assists eligible lower income, elderly, and/or disabled homeowners to address code violations. The Department of Community Development has partnered with the Jefferson Parish Department of Inspection and Code Enforcement, the Homebuilder’s Association of New Orleans, and Jefferson Parish Workforce Connection and, on February 19th, 2013, started their first Jefferson Joining Forces project at the home of a Jefferson Parish resident.

  • Rickey Jackson Community Hope Center Announcement

    Former Saints linebacker and Pro Football Hall of Famer Rickey Jackson, Jefferson Parish, the Ed Block Courage Award Foundation, the Archdiocese of New Orleans and the New Orleans Saints announced the New Orleans Saints Courage House at the Rickey Jackson Community Hope Center on Friday, February 1st at the former Hope Haven Center in Marrero, La. The Rickey Jackson Community Hope Center will provide professional mental health counseling, educational training, abusive behavior management therapy, nurturing, mentoring and hope for abused, neglected and at-risk children in the New Orleans area as part of the Courage House National Support Network. The Center is the 23rd within the Courage House Network in the United States.

    Spring is in the air and that means it’s time for the 2013 Jefferson Parish Senior Expo. Offering all kinds of good information, treats, and entertainment for seniors, this year’s Expo will be held Thursday, March 14, 2013 [from 8:00 a.m. to Noon] at the Alario Center in Westwego.

  • Rainbow Pinnacle Ball 2013

    Watch as Pinnacles members and their guests celebrate the Mardi Gras season at this beautiful formal ball. This year’s theme is “Under the Big Top.” Jefferson Parish Parks and Recreation offers recreation activities to people with developmental disabilities.     On Monday, February 18, 2013, Jefferson Parish officials cut the ribbon on Lakeshore Playground’s new tennis courts.

  • Krewe of Argus Parade 2013

    The Krewe of Argus was named after the Greek Mythology God, Argus, the all-seeing with one hundred eyes. Argus observed Jupiter cheating on his wife. Jupiter ordered Mercury to cut the head off of Argus. The Goddess Juno, seeing this, took the hundred eyes off of Argus and put them on the tail of her peacock, where they remain today. That is why the peacock is the logo of the Krewe of Argus and is the backdrop of the Co-Captain's float in the parade.

    The Corps de Napoleon was established in 1980 to give Jefferson Parish an excitingly different approach to Mardi Gras.
