Terrytown GoldenAgers Senior Center Grand Opening
Community members and elected officials recently gathered to celebrate the completion of the Terrytown Golden Age Center. The 3,900-square-foot facility, which cost just over $1 million, was funded by the Jefferson Parish Recreation Department and gaming revenue received from Boomtown Casino. The center includes several improvements and upgrades, including Americans with Disabilities Act compliancy, a 12-foot ceiling in the main area, an upgraded kitchen, new bingo boards, additional storage, a covered drop off, automatic doors on the front entrance and six handicapped parking spots.
Pinnacles Ball 2014
On January 31st, the Pinnacles celebrated Carnival season with their annual formal ball at the Pontchartrain Center. This year’s theme was the “Wild West.” Jefferson Parish Parks and Recreation offers recreation activities to people with developmental disabilities. The goals are to improve or maintain physical, cognitive, emotional and social functions and promote healthy, independent leisure lifestyles. For more information, call 736-6999.
Senior EXPO 2014 Promo

Emergency Medical Services Transit Buses
Two surplus Jefferson Parish transit buses were donated to East Jefferson General Hospital and West Jefferson Medical Center by the Jefferson Parish Council and refurbished for use.
Kitten Bowl 2014
On February 1st, the Jefferson SPCA was one of 10 shelters across the nation that held its own Kitten Bowl and cat adoption event in partnership with the Hallmark Channel’s Kitten Bowl. When it was all said and done, our own Jefferson SPCA emerged victorious with the most cat adoptions out of all 10 competing shelters.
Lafitte Cajun Christmas
Lafitte’s new Barataria Museum and Wetland Trace hosted a new Jefferson Parish holiday tradition on Saturday, December 7th. The Cajun Christmas event gave visitors and residents alike a taste of Christmas down on the bayou with food, music, lights, and more all in the great outdoors of Cajun Country.
Holiday in the Park Lighting 2013
Friday December 6th, 2013, Lafreniere Park kicked off its annual Holiday tradition of lighting up Lafreniere Park with thousands of colorful holiday lights and characters. Holiday in the Park will remain lit up and open to the public through the New Year’s holiday. The cost is $3 per car.
