  • Family Gras 2013

    Family Gras is a family-friendly Carnival event that offers free outdoor concerts, including national and Louisiana artists alike. Held February 1st and 2nd on the neutral ground at Veterans Blvd. in front of Lakeside Mall, Family Gras enables Jefferson Parish restaurants, caterers, and businesses to feature their cuisine and desserts as well as local artists’ crafts and art pieces. With crowds estimated at 100,00 this year and an economic impact of over $6 million for Jefferson in the past year, corporate and small business owners are provided with a fantastic advertising opportunity by partnering with Family Gras. This year’s event boasted big name musical acts like Franki Valli, Fitz and the Tantrums, Amanda Shaw, Creedence Clearwater Revisited, and more.

  • The Krewe of Alla Parade 2013

    The theme of this year's parade is "Alla Takes Flight," and its floats are titled The Griffin, The Phoenix, The American Eagle, The Giant Roc, The Wise Old Owl, The Quetzal, The Raven, and Parrots. Also appearing in the line-up are Alla's iconic maharajah, maharanee, and title floats and its signature Coon-Ass and Allagator floats.

  • The Krewe of Caesar Parade 2013

    Founded in 1979, the Krewe of Caesar takes the name of an actual historical figure rather than a myth. Formed by more than 800 men and women members, Caesar is the largest Carnival organization in Jefferson Parish history. This organization is known for spectacular costumes for members of the royal court, with fiber-optics, neon and three-dimensional figures adorning the enormous costume collars. The Krewe of Caesar is also known as the Roma Club. Past Grandmarshalls include celebrities from a variety of backgrounds. These celebrities include baseball player Billy Martin, cartoon mascots like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and even pop singer David Archuleta in 2009. The Krewe’s signature float is the Hydra, a mythic beast that had the body of a serpent with many heads and known for emerging from it’s swamp home and attacking local villagers and their cattle. On Saturday February 2, 2013 at 6:00pm the Krewe of Caesar parade down the traditional Metairie parade route for its 34th annual Parade.

  • The Krewe of Excalibur Parade 2013

    The Krewe of Excalibur Carnival Club are preparing for their Twelth Mardi Gras parade in Metairie on February 1, 2013. A Medieval theme to the organization lends itself to grand costuming and a unique look. If you are a Medieval buff you will enjoy their ball where King Arthur, with his sword Excalibur, reigns with his Queen Guenevire. Merlin and Lady of the Lake also appear. The Krewe of Excalibur are a social Organization having several fun filled events each year

    In partnership with the Super Bowl XLVII New Orleans’ Host Committee’s Environmental Committee, the Hike for KaTREEna project is trying to plant 7 thousand trees in the New Orleans area this year. On Saturday, January 12th, 1 thousand native Louisiana trees were given away at Lafreniere Park to Jefferson Parish residents.

  • The Krewe of Little Rascals Parade 2013

    The Krewe of Little Rascals celebrates its 30th anniversary as a premier organization for the youth of America. The Krewe of Little Rascals was formed in 1983 by Jack and Maureen Spittler, who wanted to give their own children and the children of the Greater New Orleans area their own unique Mardi Gras experience. The Krewe has members from all over the United States now who also participate in the Ball Masque and the Parade. In 1987, Arthur Hardy, author of the Mardi Gras Guide, said of the Krewe “…with the support of residents and businesses in the Kenner-Metairie community, the Little Rascals may be destined to make Mardi Gras history, by surviving as a quality organization for youngsters”. In 2008, more than 20 years later, Arthur Hardy writes of the Krewe “Little Rascals is the longest running, most flamboyant, most successful organization for young people in the history of Mardi Gras”. The Krewe gained international exposure through a 1997 segment on T.V. in Japan and our 1998 feature article in National Geographic WORLD Magazine. Dot Cooke, Assistant Captain and Parade Coordinator said, “Our parade, on January 20, 2013 attracted a crowd of over 300,000, three times as many people as the crowd who attend the Super Bowl”. When the Krewe began, there were only 3 Krewe floats. Now the parade has 14-20 floats totaling 85+ units each year. They include Court floats, Krewe floats and a specially designed float for handicapped riders. These floats are joined by marching groups, bands, horseback riding groups, car clubs, and our Grand Marshal and other special interest units. The Jerusalem Temple and Farhad Grotto Shriners are a beloved part of our production, along with several radio station vans and special vehicles. Many schools from the Metro Area participate, along with dance schools, military bands and floats, Jimmy’s Kids. Radio Disney, the Hornets Bookmobile, Honey Bees and the Saintsations have also been attractions in our parade.. One year we featured the iconic “Roman Candy” horse carriage, as a Mardi Gras first. Hundreds of thousands+ watch as our family-oriented parade and ball are aired on area T.V. and now on the internet. Our parade Grand Marshals have included national sports figures, music celebrities both national and local, TV personalities, a Navajo Code Talker and bbefore his untimely death, Mr. Spanky McFarland rode as our Grand Marshal. He was “Spanky” in the original motion picture and was very happy to be part of our organization. Our kids “of all ages” will never forget him. We have special rates available on rooms at a local hotel for our out-of-town members and guests.
